k, to continue!
so, the internet in my room hasn´t been working anymore, so making it difficult to update my blogs.
but anyways! so we went to jordi´s house and it was a lot of fun. the boys made sangria and we just hung around and laughed and stuff. and then at 1:30 am we left. yeesh! we met up with some other people (andreu´s girlfriends friends) and we went to a discoteca. it was HUGE! and super crowded and really loud. but it was a lot of fun nonetheless. definitely not something i´d want to do every weekend, but once in a while it´s ok. we left there at 4:30 am! haha..the metro´s close from 2-5 so we ate churros until the metro reopened. i went to bed at 6 am on staurday night! wowee!
sunday i didn´t wake up till 12, and me, alex, tim, and amy met up at 3 (after another delicious lunch) to explore plaza de espanya and montjuic. both which are amazing. i took pictures of those already and they´re posted on my ofoto site. montjuic is where all the olympic stuff is. we sat at the olympic pool for like 40 minutes, just staring at the water. i don´t know why...haha
then we walked to plaza de la universidad to make sure we knew where to go for classes on monday. that´s basically all of interest...we also got some pamphlets of cool stuff to do at the visitor´s center underneath plaza de cataulunya. there´s so much to do it´s overwhelming!
monday was the first day of classes in barcelona. nothing really exciting happened...same stuff as before but in a new location. the university building is really beautiful though. it´s in the old part of the city, so it is, of course old. we all went to the other campus together on the metro and got a long tour. it´s big but not as big as cornell! :) we also had to sit through a 2 hour meeting about spanish teaching styles and ID cards etc...and since me and alex were experts in getting cell phones (thanks to the spaniards!) we helped tim and andrew get them at el corte ingles. after that me and alex went in search of a cool gym or something (more her idea, than mine...haha)but it ended up being like a 2 hour ordeal and nothing really came of it. i stayed up late that night because the internet was working in my room so i took advantage of it (me aproveché!)
yesterday was a very good day though! we only had class until 11:30, and afterwards me and alex met up with jordi, one of the spaniards! he´s so sweet, and he took us around everywhere to see famous gaudi houses, not just to look, but he also explained architecture to us! and we walked all over the place, i have no idea where we went. but we saw the barcelona zoo, the arc de triumph, and we ventured into the old city to see the cathedral and 4 roman columns that are way old. it was awesome thouhg! after we wandered forever, looked into lots of shops, alex got a poster, and we helped andrew with his cell phone, alex decided to go home. but i didn´t feel like going home, so jordi drove me to the top of mt tibidabo!!! how cool is that?? i will post the pictures online if i ever get internet back. tibidabo is the mountain the marks one border of barcelona. so when you talk about where you live you either say in the direction of tibidabo or in the direction of the sea. it was the most amazing view of the city. i took a bunch of pictures and then stitched them together on my computer to make a panoramic pic. it´s flipping sweet.
i returned home after that, and after dinner i just crashed. we must have walked like 10 km or something (i have no idea, i´m bad with distances. but it was like constant walking for 8 hours). but it was so fun! i definitely haven´t experienced any culture shock yet, but i think it´s cuz the spaniards have been so welcoming and so willing to show us around and be patient. jordi thinks my foreign accent is very interesting. personally, i just think it´s very bad!
by the way, sorry this is so long. i know no one except my parents will want to read this much!
today is the first day of our art history class. that is why i´m at the university of barcelona computer lab right now -- free internet! woohoo! after classes this morning i did a little shopping :-P i got two really cute shirts...hehe. stuff here is really cheap! i got a long sleeved shirt for 8 euros. it would have been like 25 in america. and there were pants for 5 euros (but of course they didn´t fit).
today is really hot. i haven´t really been outside that much though, so i´m not dying. it poured yesterday though. when me and jordi were on top of mt tibidabo we could see the rain falling on certain parts of the city. it was pretty cool, especially because i wasn´t the one getting soaked. 0:)
we leave for gerona on friday for the weekend. which i´m excited about but i also wish we could have more weekends here before we left. i feel like we need to get used to the city before we leave! grrr. there´s also talk going around of a bunch of people going to rome together in the first week of october! i´m totally into that idea...but more research must be done. i don´t plan on having class on fridays, so it would be a 4 day trip only (thurs-sun).
life in the home stay is going really well. my señora is so cute. she likes to talk to me about the news and likes to give me adivce on how to look more spanish. for example, how i hold my knife. apparently i cut my food incorrectly. but now i do it right! i guess that´s about it. i know that was a lot. sorry. i could have gone on ;-)
